Behind the Care Cards: Meet Our Young Artist

At Succly, every detail of our subscription box is designed with love for plants and care for our customers. From the plants we grow in our greenhouses to the little touches we include inside each box. One of those details is the illustrated care card that comes with every succulent, and the story behind the new drawings is extra special to us.

Our first few care card illustrations were made for us but now our care card illustrations are created by our daughter, who is 12 years old and has loved drawing since she could hold a pencil. When we started building Succly, we thought it would be a meaningful way for her to be part of the family business, and she has embraced the role with so much creativity and excitement.

Each drawing takes her about 45 minutes. We take a photo of the succulents of the month, give her the photo and she looks at the unique shape and color of the succulent, then sketches it out on her iPad. When she’s finished, she sends it over to us so we can add the care details and get it ready for printing. From there, the cards are tucked into every box we ship, heading out to plant lovers across the country.

Not only does this give her a chance to sharpen her artistic skills, but it also allows her to contribute something meaningful to our customers and our family business.
