Anacampseros rufescens: A Living Sunrise

Anacampseros rufescens, sometimes called the “Sunrise Succulent,” (along with it's cousin Anacampseros Telephiastrum) is a compact, mat forming plant with small pointed leaves that shift colors depending on light exposure. It's leaves range from green to purple, pink, and orange, creating a living rainbow in a pot. Native to South Africa, this succulent is both hardy and decorative.

What Makes It Special?
*Striking color changes, the more sun it gets, the more vivid the purples and pinks become.
*Grows into a dense cluster, almost like a colorful succulent carpet.
*Produces star shaped pink to purple flowers in summer.
*Easy to propagate, so you can multiply your collection quickly.

How to Care for Anacampseros rufescens

Light
Thrives in bright light with several hours of direct sun daily. Strong light brings out the most vibrant leaf colors. Indoors, a sunny windowsill is best.

Water
Water deeply but infrequently. Allow soil to dry out completely before watering again. Overwatering can cause root rot.

Soil
Use a fast draining cactus or succulent soil mix. Adding extra perlite or grit is ideal.

Temperature
Prefers 65–85°F. It’s not frost hardy, so bring indoors if temperatures dip below 40°F.

Fertilizer
Feed once a month during the active growing season (spring through summer) with a diluted 1/4 strength succulent fertilizer.

Blooming
Produces small, star shaped purple/pink flowers in summer. Flowers usually open in the afternoon sun.

Pet Safe?
Yes, this succulent is considered non toxic to cats and dogs.

Humidity
Low humidity is best. Avoid misting, as it doesn’t benefit the plant and may encourage rot.

Propagation
Easily propagated by stem cuttings, offsets, or even individual leaves. Place cuttings on dry soil and let them callus before spritz watering.
