Sedeveria ‘Soft Rime’- Blue Burrito
Sedeveria ‘Soft Rime’ is a compact hybrid between Sedum and Echeveria. It forms tight, symmetrical rosettes with smooth, pointed leaves coated in a soft powdery bloom. This coating gives the plant its frosted appearance and it shifts its colors between pale green, icy blue, and light lavender depending on the season and the amount of light. As it matures, it produces offsets that form a rounded cluster of pastel toned rosettes.
What Makes It Special
Soft Rime is known for its color palette and sculptural shape. The powdery bloom gives it a soft, frosted look that photographs beautifully, making it a favorite for displays and arrangements. It stays compact, holds its shape well in bright light, and is easy for beginners to grow. Its ability to cluster quickly gives it a full, lush presence without needing frequent repotting.
How to Care for It
Light
Bright indirect light to several hours of direct sun. Strong light helps it maintain its pastel color and prevents stretching.
Water
Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. The leaves store moisture well, so it prefers infrequent, deep watering. Overwatering can cause leaf swelling or root issues.
Soil
Use a fast draining cactus and succulent mix. A blend with added perlite or pumice helps prevent excess moisture around the roots.
Temperature
Ideal range is 60 to 85 degrees. It can tolerate short periods of heat but should be protected from frost.
Fertilizer
Feed lightly during spring and summer with a diluted succulent fertilizer. It requires minimal feeding to maintain healthy growth.
Blooming
Produces small star shaped flowers in warm months. Blooms can appear on long, arching stems while the rosette remains compact below.
Pet Safe
Generally considered non toxic, but ingestion is not recommended. As with all succulents, keep out of reach of pets that like to chew.
Humidity
Prefers low humidity. High humidity can cause moisture to sit on the leaves and disturb the powdery coating. Good airflow helps maintain the plant’s natural finish.
Propagation
Easily propagated by offsets or leaf cuttings. Offsets can be separated once they form a small rosette of their own. Leaf cuttings root readily when left to callus and placed on dry, gritty soil.
